Leadership, Organisational Development, Diversity, Harassment and Bullying Training, 1991-2009We have undertaken a range of short and long term trainingprogrammes and facilitation of large group events and simulations with a range of clients. This has included charites such asAmnesty International, CancerBacup, Volunteer Reading Help, and small local organisations as well as larger programmes for The Civil Service, Local Authorities, NHS Boards, Primary Care Trusts and Universities. Our training feedback is always very positive and we offer post training telephone support to clients as well as comprehensive training handbooks and evaluation reports for all courses.
Development of Language and Communication Strategy and Standards for London Providers, London Health Commission, 2006-2007
Silkap led and coordinated a four part project to reduce inequalities in health by improving the access to and the quality of language support services across public sectors in London as part of The London Language Plan. The Project worked with a stakeholder team and resulted in good practice standards and language and communication targets endorsed byThe London Assembly and adopted by key playerssuch as The London Ambulance Service, The London Development Agency, East London Interpreting Consortium, The Audit Commission, The Regional Language Network, and The Metropolitan Police Authority. Our methodology during this two year project was based the model of ‘simultaneous integrated action research'. As a whole system approach, it recognised that individuals work within a social, political and economic context and the synergy for change needs to happen at all levels of the organisation.
Patient and Public Involvement in the Inspection Process. Client: Commission for Health Improvement and the National Care Standards Commission, 2003/2004
We worked withstaff and service users / carers bringing them together for the first time within the organisation to identify appropriate ways in which patient and public involvement can better inform the inspection process for diagnostic treatment centres.
Review of Service Delivery Models for Translation and Interpretation. Client: Department of Health, 2003
We set up a multi-ageny 'Reference Group' as part of this qualitative review of language and communication services across the NHS in the UK. Weassessed different delivery models and their economic viability and transferabilitywhich, if deployed more widely in the NHS would result in a robust, affordable and comprehensive services. We developed indicators for successful language service provision, including systems and structures for matching resources to need.
Riverside Citizen and User Project. Client: Riverside Community NHS Trust, 2000-2001
We carried out quantitative and qualitative research, getting feedback from users and carers about a range of the Trust's community and primary care services. As a result of the findings two large simulation exercises were conducted led by the Primary Care Trusts . Silkap designed and facilitated the local simulation for a group of 150 local stakeholders to inform how local patient involvement structures could be developed.
Users and Patient Choice . Client: Department of Health , Cabinet Office, 2002
Patients currently waiting for NHS treatment and within communities were consulted to test the ideas and proposals around patient choice and the type of considerations which the system design needs to take into account to ensure equity and sensitivity.
Mapping Health Advocacy across London. Client: King's Fund 2000-2001
This was a large scale qualitative research project to identify the provision of health advocacy services across all boroughs in London.Therecommendations were developed in partnership with a ‘Reference Group' of inter agency stakeholders representing funders, advocacy providers and service users. As a result of the recommendations the King's Fund set aside £1 million pounds to develop advocacy standards, an accredited training model, a pan London network and long term funding options.
Review of London PALS Pathfinder Sites. Client: NHS London Regional Office, 2001
We evaluated how the 12 PALS Pathfinder sites in hospitals across London were working. The process included non participant observation, semi-structured interviews with provider staff at all levels and service users. Our report and final recommendations informed the Department of Health Guidelines and resulted in the development of a training toolkit and learning sets for senior managers which Silkap facilitated.
Advocacy Training and Development Project. Clients: Westminster Social Services, Kensington Chelsea and Westminster Health Authority and Voluntary Action Westminster 1998-2000
An action research project working with an inter agency ‘Work Group' to develop appropriate education, training and information for local health and social providers who were resistant to using advocacy services. The initiative resulted in a local interactive website, a training video (‘Advocacy Works'), training workshops and local guidelines for commissioning advocacy and standards for advocacy providers which have been adopted by the local Partnership Boards. The local advocacy infrastructure was also strengthened and supported and consequently has developed a positive relationship with PALS services.
